Traditional Honey Fairy Cakes with Propolis
Traditional Honey Fairy Cakes with Propolis
Imagine a fairy cake that combines the tradition of La Granja Foods with the unique flavour and benefits of Mels Alemany 1879's propolis honey. This delicious creation is the result of the combination of our experience in artisan baking and Mels Alemany 1879's passion for the highest quality honey.
The making of our madeleines is an art that we have perfected with care and attention to detail. Each ingredient is combined with precision, ensuring a balanced blend that captures the essence of tradition and authentic flavour. Honey, sourced from Mels Alemany 1879's exclusive beehives, is added with reverence, bringing not only sweetness but also a complexity of nuances that unfold in every bite.
Our commitment to quality is reflected in the baking process. We opt for tradition, baking slowly and unhurriedly. This method, which has been perfected over generations, ensures that each madeleine achieves the fluffy texture and perfect golden brown that characterise our creations.

Fairy Cakes with Honey and Propolis by Mels Alemany 1879. From day one, making products to the best of our knowledge and ensuring a great taste has been an inalienable value for us.
In 1954 our grandparents had a grocery store next to their small chicken farm. In it they sold eggs as well as groceries of all kinds to the neighborhood. Once the store ran out of muffins, one of their most popular products. To please her customers, our grandmother decided to bake her own muffin recipe in her home kitchen. Her huge success surprised everyone, as they sold more and more. From there, La Granja was born and we learned something we always keep in mind: to work hard and do everything the best you know how to do to satisfy your customers.
This was the case with the first traditional specialties that made us known and has continued to be so throughout our trajectory, by continually incorporating novelties in our range.
By keeping ahead of the needs and desires of consumers, we have become a benchmark for quality and innovation in our food products sector. In the 1980s, La Granja was a pioneer in creating specialties to meet different dietary needs, which today form part of our Diet range.
Later we launched the Bio range, which uses only ingredients from organic farming. This was followed by the Vegan range for strictly vegan consumption and the Gluten Free and Lactose Free products.
What is Mels Alemany?
The history of Torrons i Mel Alemany began at the end of the 19th century, when Mrs. Mundeta made a sweet with the honey and nuts of the area. Given that the Montsec is a rough and difficult terrain for cultivation, this activity was a good alternative.
The distinguishing feature of ‘turron Alemany’ is due to a 19th-century recipe that gives the paste a characteristic white colour. Slow cooking, local nuts and carefully selected rosemary honey are part of the secret that gives the nougat its particular flavour. Alemany specialises in single-flower honeys collected from beekeepers all over the country.
Alemany’s innovation is provided by the concept of honey with added value, in its line of gourmet honey.
Alemany’s nougat and honey have been recognised with the Great Taste Awards on several occasions, an award considered the Oscar of the delicatessen food world.
